A new spar-type floating substructure made of concrete for offshore wind turbines could help move wind farms to deeper waters while providing a cost-effective and robust alternative to steel. Called Windcrete, the substructure has been developed by a small group of professors and researchers at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.
