The challenge of floating offshore wind energy

Events

Professors from the Civil Engineering School at UPC participated for 10 years in projects related with floating offshore wind energy. Nowadays, offshore wind is a reality in Europe at the North Sea, where the continental shelve makes easier to fix those structures to the seabed. However, most coastal areas of the world present smaller continental shelves and it makes necessary the use of floating support structures.

In this presentation, Professor C. Molins shows the main types of floating platforms, the development of prototypes and the pilot parks at the world level, together with some of the developments achieved at UPC.
